LAHORE: On the direction of Inspector General of Police Punjab Inam Ghani, a meeting was held at the Central Police Office to review the annual performance of Punjab Highway Patrol, which was chaired by Additional IGP PHP Shahid Hanif. The meeting was attended by DIG PHP Dr. Abid Khan, SP Headquarters Afzal Nazir and Regional SPs. Welfare, discipline and road crime reports, vehicle maintenance, traffic management projects and other issues related to security of Lahore-Sialkot Motorway were included. All the Regional Heads gave a presentation on the annual performance of their region while the performance of PHP Force, prevention of traffic accidents and measures taken against anti-social elements were also discussed in detail.

Appreciating the performance of Gujranwala region in the meeting, the Additional IGPH directed that other regions should also improve their overall performance in the same manner. Additional IGP PHP Shahid Hanif while issuing high alert in view of the outbreak of Corona said that PHP personnel in all regions and districts should perform their duties more diligently while abiding by SOPs. He further said that the officers who have performed best in each region during the year should be awarded certificates of appreciation and rewards so that the morale of the personnel could be further enhanced. He further said that reunion of missing children with their parents is the highest level of faith while awareness lectures on road safety should be continued by mobile education units in colleges and universities. The meeting was briefed on the performance of the traffic management project and while appreciating the results, it was reiterated to expand the scope of the project. The Additional IG PHP directed that a request would be made again to IG Punjab for repair and maintenance of vehicles used for operational purposes so that the overall performance of the force could be improved with the improvement of available resources. He emphasized that the welfare and protection of personnel is one of the top priorities of PHP, therefore timely measures will be taken under all available resources and comprehensive strategies would be adopted in this regard for promotion of PHP Force. Practical efforts will also be initiated to revive the promotion process so that PHP officers and personnel can get departmental promotions in time as per merit. A detailed briefing was given in the meeting about the rented buildings used by PHP. Appreciating the performance of PHP regarding Corona, he said that the diligence and enthusiasm with which the PHP personnel performed their duties during the Corona Lockdown is commendable. He further said that in line with the vision of IG Punjab Inam Ghani, PHP officers should perform their duties as a "support force" for the convenience and safety of passengers on highways so that the atmosphere of cooperation between citizens and police could be improved. Make blockades and patrolling more effective to curb smuggling in the districts adjoining the provincial borders. Talking about the tree planting campaign, he said that this charity is ongoing so plant as many trees as possible with the cooperation of the public and make efforts for their survival. There is a zero tolerance policy against corruption. He further directed the Regional Heads that negligence in duty will not be tolerated at all. Regional and District Officers should visit the check posts and ensure the attendance of personnel at the posts. All Regional Heads and District Officers should expedite surprise visits in their respective areas.
