ISLAMABAD: President Dr. Arif Alvi has said that Pakistan attaches great importance to relations with Uzbekistan and the two countries should cooperate in all fields of mutual interest including politics, trade, economy and culture.
He was talking to Syed Ali Asad Gilani, Pakistan's nominee ambassador to Uzbekistan, who met him here on Tuesday. The President said that relations with Uzbekistan need to be further strengthened in all areas of mutual interest, including politics, trade, economy and culture, and issues of bilateral importance, the regional situation and other issues need to be discussed. President Arif Ali said there was a need for high-level visits, parliamentary exchanges and ministerial contacts between the two countries.
He urged the Ambassador-designate to work for the promotion of trade and economic relations between the two countries and increase exports of Pakistani manufactured products, medicines and services to Uzbekistan. The President further said that work should be done to promote tourism in Pakistan and strengthen cultural ties with Uzbekistan, adding that parliamentary exchanges were also needed to further strengthen bilateral ties.
