KARACHI: Karachi's anti-terrorism court has issued a written verdict in the 270-page Baldia tragedy case. The court said that the main accused Rehman Bhola and Zubair Charia should be sentenced to death 264 times for the murder of 264 people.
Both men were sentenced to 264 years in prison for killing workers inside the factory. According to the order, 10 people were sentenced to 10 years imprisonment and fined Rs 100,000 each for injuring 60 people.
The written order also ordered to pay Rs 2 lakh to the heirs of 264 deceased persons. The convicts were also sentenced to 10 years imprisonment and a fine of Rs 1.1 lakh for extortion.
According to the written order, the convicts Sharkh, Ali Mohammad, Fazal Mohammad and Arshad Mahmood were sentenced to life imprisonment for providing facility. The written decision said that the facilitators helped the criminals to enter the factory with the chemical and 264 lives were lost due to the use of the same chemical.
