Tadweer Responds to more than 16,000 Ant Control Service Requests in Abu Dhabi during the first half of 2020

Public campaigns are underway through Social Media to tell people more about the services available and how to keep their homes safe and clean.

Tadweer Responds to more than 16,000 Ant Control Service Requests in Abu Dhabi during the first half of 2020

ABU DHABI – UAE: The Abu Dhabi Waste Management Center (Tadweer) revealed that it has acted on more than 16,000 service requests for ant control during the first half of the year (H1’2020) in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and Al Dhafra cities.

As part of Tadweer’s ongoing efforts to preserve public health and safety in Abu Dhabi, its teams have responded to a total of 16,870 ant control service request salone in H1’2020. The Tadweer response rate has increased when compared with 15,858 requests in the same period of 2019; including 5,242 requests in Abu Dhabi (compared to 5,509), 10,769 in Al Ain (compared to 9,431), and 859 in Al Dhafra (compared to 918).

Eng Mohammed Mahmoud Al Marzouqi, Pest Control Projects Director at Tadweer said: “Our mission is to ensure a safe, healthy and sustainable environment throughout Abu Dhabi. Dealing with ant control requests,forms part of our effort to increase and maintain both public cleanliness and environmental safety for the benefit of the community. We follow best international practice in our use of licensed pesticides, that are approved locally and internationally, and in our protocols for the proper control and disposal of these ants. Consequently, we are maintaining a clean environment and preventing any potential damage that they may cause to homes and communities.”

Al Marzouqi also noted the success of Tadweer’s public awareness and educational campaigns (that run through social media platforms and media outlets in more than one language) to enhance people’s environmental awareness about the correct and healthy way to combat these pests. The campaigns show people how they can make the best use of the center’s services, through contacting the Abu Dhabi government on 800555, requesting a pest control service and reading the list of companies that are licensed in this field.

He also asked the public not to deal with any unlicensed or unauthorized companies or stores working to control ants and other pests in homes and residential communities.

Tadweer continues to educate residents in the emirate about safe, healthy and effective methods for dealing with ants in homes or villas. One key message for all the population involves the maintenance of general hygiene in homes through the practice of regularly cleaning surfaces and floors of all forms of food, crumbs and other elements that can attract ants and other insects.

Simple and effective practices include; removing any sweetened substances or exposed sugars in the kitchen, ensuring that there are no holes in kitchen tables and rooms, tightly closing food bags, regular maintenance and cleaning of windows and doors, maintaining the water network, and trimming trees that are near walls.

Tadweer is the key government entity responsible for all activities related to the development of waste management services in the emirate of Abu Dhabi, including the collection, transportation, treatment and disposal of waste in a safe, efficient and economical manner. The Center is also tasked with carrying out pest control, educating communities about the significance of protecting the environment, and encouraging them to adopt sound environmental habits to drive sustainable development.
