LAHORE: Provincial department HR&MA organized a consultation session regarding Punjab Interfaith Harmony policy 2020 at a private hotel on Tuesday. Provincial minister HR&MA Ijaz Alam Augustine attended the session as chief guest while MPA Haroon Imran Gill, Government representatives, Religious leaders, Political leaders, Representatives of various civil society organizations attended the session. Deputy Secretary HR&MA M. Yousaf briefed to the participants that department had been assigned the subject of interfaith Harmony on 30th April, 2019 after that department had formulated a draft of the subject policy. He further briefed that policy briefly defined concepts of faith, discrimination, Harassment, violence, false litigation, to set up policy dimension for a peaceful and socially sustainable society. Modes of interfaith harmony are suggested in form of awareness campaigns, dialogues, educational & liberty tools, religious celebrations and meetings of interfaith harmony bodies for sharing knowledge and experience. The provincial minister Ijaz Alam Augustine said in his address that after given important responsibility of interfaith harmony as part of the ministry from CM Punjab, many important steps being taken but through these types of session patience, kindness, forgiveness and tolerance could be promoted in a positive manner. He said that the priority of the Punjab government was to promote peace, religious harmony and tolerance, while the Government of PTI is willing to set up a peaceful environment across the Pakistan. The minister said that incumbent Government has taken all possible steps but all stakeholders will have to work together to promote peace & harmony in the society. He further said that morality and human rights are an essential component of every religion and today's session will spread the message of unity and harmony. The others speakers included Pastor Sebastian Shaw & Irfan Jamil also expressed their views and acknowledged the efforts of Punjab Government for the freedom of religion and promotion of the peace. They also acknowledged the efforts of HR&MA department to organized session and hoped that those types of session also would be held in the future by the department.
