LAHORE: Minister for Human Rights & Minority Affairs Ejaz Alam Augustine has said that Arfa Karim made Pakistan proud at a young age which is a source of pride for any Pakistani girl and we have not forgotten our talented girl even today. He said that Girls like Arfa Karim are the capital of any country but it is our misfortune that Arfa left the world at the age of just 16 but in her short life, she represented Pakistan to every forum in a positive way all over the world. He expressed these views while paying tribute to the services of Arfa Karim on the occasion of her death anniversary at the Human Rights Camp Office in a meeting with the representatives of civil society. the minister said that Arfa Karim was the only girl who was invited to the headquarters of Microsoft in united states by the world famous Bill Gates while the government of Pakistan awarded her the Presidential Award in 2005 for her services. The minister further said that concrete steps are being taken to ensure the protection and boost the confidence of girls through education and their representation in all important sectors. Ijaz Alam said that the number of women joining various professions and government departments is increasing day by day in the tenure of current Government while 15 per cent quota in jobs for women, relaxation up to 3 years of age and other facilities are being ensured. The Provincial Minister for Human Rights emphasized that there is no doubt that empowered girls become empowered women who can take better care of themselves and their families but we must all work together to provide an environment where women feel safe and play their full role in the development of Pakistan.
