ABU DHABI: The Ministry of State for Federal National Council Affairs (MFNCA) held its second ordinary coordination meeting for 2020 with the General Secretariat of the Federal National Council (FNC) on Tuesday, June 9.
Held remotely via video conference, the meeting discussed several approaches to develop and sustain operations, in an effort to enhance coordination and promote integration of roles to serve UAE citizens, address their issues, and meet their needs.
The meeting’s agenda included an overview of the decisions made at the first coordination meeting, in addition to exploring procedures for organising sessions, outlining questions to raise to Ministers, and enhance coordination between the FNC and the Government.
MFNCA Undersecretary His Excellency Tariq Hilal Lootah attended the meeting, along with H.E. Dr Omar Abdel Rahman Al Nuaimi, Secretary-General of the FNC; H.E. Dr Saeed Mohammed Al Ghufli, MFNCA’s Assistant Undersecretary of FNC Affairs; H.E. Dr Jaber Mohammed Al Zaabi, Assistant Secretary-General for Legislation and Monitoring at the General Secretariat of the FNC; and several officials and experts from both entities.
H.E. Lootah began the meeting by applauding the tremendous efforts undertaken by the teams in both the General Secretariat of the FNC and the MFNCA, who have been closely collaborating over the past few months to keep up with the general directives of the UAE’s wise leadership to maintain and develop operations, continue to provide services to UAE citizens, discuss the issues that concern them, and find solutions for any circumstances.
“This hard work and dedication have allowed us to seamlessly hold virtual sessions of the Federal National Council via videoconference – a parliamentary precedent,” H.E. added. “The sessions offered us a platform to discuss draft laws, answer questions raised by FNC members to Ministers and government officials, who, for their part, are always dedicated to participating in the sessions to discuss draft laws, answer questions, and listen to feedback and recommendations from FNC members to enhance government services and ensure people’s happiness.”
H.E. Lootah asserted that holding the meeting reflects a commitment on the part of the Ministry of State for Federal National Council Affairs and the General Secretariat of the FNC to work together. It embodies the practice of integrating roles to overcome challenges, drive success and achievement, find solutions to strengthen communication between the government and the FNC, promote efficient and effective cooperation and coordination between them, and ensure the provision of all administrative services in accordance with the highest standards of quality, efficiency, and transparency.
For his part, H.E. Dr Omar Abdel Rahman Al Nuaimi, noted that the meeting discussed ways to support the FNC to continue to fulfill its national role, practice its legislative and control functions, and address the issues that most concern the UAE and its citizens and that drive the comprehensive development process.
“Despite the ongoing circumstances and the precautionary measures taken to curb the spread of the novel Coronavirus in the world and the UAE, the FNC has continued to hold its sessions remotely, supported by the Ministry of State for FNC Affairs, the General Secretariat of the Federal National Council, and all relevant entities and authorities in the UAE. The Council used these sessions to discuss draft laws and debate questions that addressed several sectors, vital to the UAE’s plans to achieve UAE Vision 2021,” H.E. said.
“The FNC was established in parallel to the founding of the UAE union,” H.E. Al Nuaimi asserted. “It has since played a great part in the country’s development thanks to the unlimited support it receives from the wise leadership, headed by UAE President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the patron of the empowerment drive in the country.”
The meeting was held via video conference in line with the directives of the UAE Government, and in keeping with the precautionary measures implemented to ensure the health and safety of all members of the community.
