KABUL: An avalanche in Afghanistan's Badakhshan province has killed 14 people and injured several others. According to the international news agency, an avalanche fell on houses in Raghistan district of Badakhshan province of Afghanistan, as a result of which dozens of people were buried under the rubble.
A spokesman for the governor of Badakhshan said the area was under Taliban control and rescue operations were hampered. Eleven people were rushed to hospital in critical condition.
The hospital administration says the death toll is expected to rise as three of the injured are in critical condition. The dead included women and children.
The village in Badakhshan where the avalanche fell is located between the snow-capped mountains and the area was also experiencing a series of blizzards.
