ISLAMABAD: The government has decided to open all educational institutions across the country in phases from January 18. Federal Minister for Education Shafqat Mehmood chaired an inter-provincial education ministers' conference, which was attended by provincial education ministers and other officials via video link. Health Ministry officials briefed on the latest situation in Corona. The meeting discussed in detail the holding of board exams in May and June, reduction of winter and summer vacations and proposals to start the academic year from August 22-2021.
In the light of the recommendation of the Ministry of Health, it was decided in the meeting that educational institutions from class IX to XII would be opened on January 18, educational institutions from class I to VIII on January 25 and universities from February 1.
After the meeting, Federal Minister for Education Shafqat Mehmood said in a press briefing with Special Assistant Dr Faisal Sultan that a meeting of the Inter-Provincial Ministry of Education would be reconvened on January 14 or 15 to review the situation of Corona cases. The board exams in March will now be held in May and June.
It should be noted that educational institutions across the country were closed from November 26 in view of the second wave of Corona. Home-based education continued in schools, colleges and universities until December 24.
