MINISTER EJAZ ALAM AUGUSTINE CHAIRS CONSULTATION SESSION OF TRANSGENDER COMMUNITY

LAHORE: Provincial Minister for Human Rights and Minority Affairs ijaz Alam Augustine has said that the Government of the Punjab was ensuring the protection of the transgender community while the Punjab government is going to table a bill of Protection in this regard in the Assembly after consultation of entire community. He said that the human rights department is forming working groups from each community to protect human rights because the protection of rights every community was the top priority of the Punjab government as promoting peace, religious harmony and tolerance in the society while the government was taking all possible steps for a peaceful environment across the province. He expressed these views while headed a consultation session at the new minister block’s committee room on Tuesday. Provincial minister live stock Sardar Husnain Dreeshak and MPA Uzma Kardar also join the session to show solidarity among the community. Representatives of the transgender community raised the points facing the community across the province and protection against violence at community such as Harassment etc. They appealed to grant special permission of Umrah & Hajj, celebrate community day as other days, remove obstacles during journey especially in other countries, place in I.D card, facilities to get a house on rent, job quota, center of protection community like Rawalpnidi etc.  they also appealed to make a law after mutual consultation of entire community as Government of the Punjab was protecting rights of every community. The minister Ijaz Alam assured them draft will be tabled after complete consultation and department already working on it but it should be part of law in 2020 after meet all legal complications. The representatives of UNDP, SATHI foundation, Kss, Transgender rights consultants Pakistan, Hope, Rwawalpnidi Tahafaz Police, Sarah Welfare Foundation and other were present in the session.
