ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed has said that lasting peace in Afghanistan is a common goal of Pakistan and the United States. Appeals against the release of Omar Sheikh in the Daniel Pearl case are in the Supreme Court, the courts are independent. It is believed that the decision of the High Court will be in accordance with justice and law.

He made the remarks during a meeting with US Charge 'D' Affairs Angela P. Aggeler here on Tuesday. Appeals and other matters of mutual interest were discussed in the High Court.

The Home Minister said that the relations between Pakistan and the United States are very old and hoped that the new US administration would significantly improve Pak-US relations. He said that lasting peace in Afghanistan is a common goal of Pakistan and the United States. There have been countless lives and financial sacrifices for peace. We will continue to work closely with the new US administration for lasting peace in Afghanistan.

He said that appeals against the release of Omar Sheikh in the Daniel Pearl case are in the Supreme Court. Courts in Pakistan are independent. He is confident that the decision of the High Court will be in accordance with justice and law. There are ample opportunities to improve Pak-US relations, Afghanistan values ​​Pakistan's efforts for lasting peace.

The Acting US Ambassador said that justice is expected from the Pakistani court in the case of American citizen and journalist Daniel Pearl. The family of Daniel Pearl is awaiting justice. Also appreciated Federal Home Secretary Yousuf Naseem Khokhar was also present in the meeting.
